We are seeking a full-time experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team. The role of Veterinary Technician is crucial to the overall daily workflow in the clinic. Our team of Veterinary Technicians must communicate effectively and work together to coordinate the flow of appointments and in-house procedures, while delivering compassionate patient care and informative client education.

Our clinic is located at 116 W Chestnut St in Denison, just around the corner from Main Street in Downtown. We are open Monday thru Friday 7:30am – 5:30pm (closed for lunch from 12:15pm – 1:15pm).

Responsibilities:

· Assist Veterinarians with appointments by obtaining patient history & vitals, updating medical notes, administering vaccines, filling prescriptions and reviewing instructions with owners, providing client education, creating estimates and reviewing cost of services with clients, and sanitizing medical equipment & exam rooms.

· Provide comprehensive patient care including hospitalized patient monitoring, documenting patient updates, administering medications (oral, topical and injectable), placing IV catheters, operating IV fluid pumps, bandage application, updating Veterinarians on patient status, and patient intake/discharge.

· Collect samples (blood, urine and fecal) for laboratory testing, obtain radiographic images (including dental radiographs), process & interpret in-house lab tests (including fecal analysis, ear/skin cytology, urinalysis, and blood smears), safely restrain patients for medical procedures, operate in-house lab machines, and complete routine maintenance on diagnostic equipment.

· Prepare surgical suite for operation, admit and prep patients for surgery, administer anesthesia (injectable and gas) under direction of Veterinarian, properly intubate and extubate, closely monitor anesthetized patients from induction to post-op recovery, provide surgical assistance and maintain sterility, perform dental prophylaxis, clean & sterilize surgical instruments & surgical suite, patient discharge, and complete routine maintenance on surgical equipment & machinery.

· Create a memorable client experience by showing empathy and connection, creating estimates and reviewing cost of services with clients while working within their budget, guiding clients to make educated decisions for their pets, and providing detailed and informative pet care instructions to pet owners.

Required Skills:

· Knowledge of procedures & protocols common in Veterinary Medicine (vaccines & preventive care, common disease/illness/injury, medications, terminology, dietary requirements, etc.)

· Skilled in venipuncture & phlebotomy

· Safe animal restraint & positioning

· Administering injections (SQ, IM and IV)

· Surgical prep, assisting, monitoring and recovery

· Medical record documentation

· Interpreting common in-house lab results
